My parents have definitely played a very key role in my financial literacy education growing up
What are 3 things people may not know about you?
1) I was the national women’s champion in indoor rowing during school
2) I can speak French (learning Mandarin too)
3) I love Star Wars
What motivated / inspired you to start talking about personal finance online?
Alongside going through my own personal finance problems, I realised that I was able to break down very complex topics into bitesized, digestible pieces for my friends. On top of that, I found Economics so interesting in Sixth Form plus my parents taught me loads regarding financial literacy. I realised there weren’t enough people who were able to get people engaged with the topic of finance in a way that would appeal to the mass youth so I wanted to be that change.
What is the one piece of advice that you’d give to people just realising that they need to get their finances in order?
Open up another account and set yourself a budget for the month eg. £200. Transfer that into that account and put any remaining money into a savings account with no online banking. You’ll stay on budget and you won’t be tempted to spend more than what’s in that account since you can’t access the extra money.
Do you have any mentors or people that you follow that have influenced you to be financially educated?
I have so many of my peers such as Bola Sol, The Penny Pal and Finance Papi (Twitter) who have all been great at being able to learn more about finance. My parents have definitely played a very key role in my financial literacy education growing up too.
What do you hope to accomplish by speaking about money online?
I hope to help my fellow peers! Even if one person takes some of my tips on board and makes changes to their financial lifestyle for the better then I’ve achieved my goal.
If you were given £500k, what would you do with it?
I’d definitely purchase my first house to live in and another to rent out, invest some in shares and leave the rest in a high interest savings account.
